Our Commitment

The "Best Club in the Universe" is committed to the ongoing development of our city, nation, and global relationships.  This is just a taste of what we accomplish!

Community Service

Booker Elementary Thanksgiving Feast

Thirteen years ago we started the Booker Thanksgiving program where we serve nearly 600 elementary school children a traditional Thanksgiving Feast.  This is made possible with our partnership with the Alexander Dawson School who cooks the food, while their honor students, Interactors, and Rotarians serve a Thanksgiving meal to Booker Elementary students and staff.

Annual Casino Night

This is our big fundraising event. Enjoy an evening of fellowship and fun with like-minded people that cherish giving back to the community. Our yearly casino night is an important fundraiser for the Downtown Charitable Fund and allows us to a showcase all the great things our club does locally, in addition to supporting international efforts of Rotary throughout the world!

Downtown Rotary Charitable Fund

Generosity doesn’t just come from wallets - it comes from the heart, too. The Downtown Rotary Charitable Fund is fortunate enough to be able to do both, thanks to the tireless fundraising efforts of the Downtown Las Vegas Rotary members. Being able to contribute to our local non-profits is the cherry on top of the sweet life of being a Rotarian, supporting Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self.”  Visit the Downtown Charitable Fund website to learn more!

Operation School Bell

Every year thousands of students in need, from kindergarten through 12th grade, may not attend school because they simply do not have adequate clothing. Volunteering at Assistance League of Las Vegas, we are able to help under-served children by guiding them as they shop for new clothing: pants, belts, shirts, underwear, socks, shoes and a hooded sweatshirt or jacket. They are also provided with a hygiene kit, school supplies and can choose an age appropriate book for their enjoyment.

Spread the Word Nevada

We regularly volunteer at Spread the Word Nevada, which is a children’s literacy nonprofit,  dedicated to advancing early childhood literacy by placing books into the hands and homes of children within Nevada’s at-risk, low income communities. While developing a love of reading, these libraries promote future academic achievement and self-confidence, which impacts lifelong success.

Santa Clothes

This annual Southern Nevada Rotary program provides a shopping spree for children selected by various youth organizations and elementary schools.  Rotarians are paired up the with the students to shop for clothing items at a local J.C. Penney department store.  After the shopping spree, the kids are transported to UNLV where they enjoy lunch and spend the afternoon with student athletes.

Salvation Army Dinner

Downtown Rotary is proud to help our community by sponsoring meals at the Salvation Army.  Where else can you serve  over 700 clients from diverse backgrounds from Veterans to under-served families?  A great way to give back to those who need it most, and sometimes a well cooked meal served by a smiling face can help you face another day.

Southern Nevada Safety Officers Award Recognition

The Southern Nevada SOAR event takes place each September.  This event is a morning where dozens of honorees in the military, law enforcement, and EMT fields are honored for their outstanding service.

International Service

Las Vegas Mayor's Cup

Our members host teams, provide transportation, housing and meals to our sponsored teams.  This is the largest International Soccer Tournament in the US with over 15,000 players participating and bringing in over $20,000,000 to our community.

Operation Christmas Child

Through the non-profit, Samantha's Purse, our members, Interactors, and their families pack 200 shoe boxes with school supplies, toiletries and a few toys.  The boxes are shipped during the Christmas holiday to children in need in various parts of the world.  The most appreciated gift in the box has been the toothbrush and toothpaste.

Corazón Super Build

Each year we participate in the Corazón Super Build project in Tecate, Mexico.  In one day, we help build an eligible family a home.  Many families live in shacks and improvised shelters, often with no paved flooring.  Corazón gives well deserving families a solid, substantial 16x20 foot home to shelter and protect their loved ones.

Polio Plus

This Rotary International program, begun in the 1980's , is Rotary's signature project aimed at eradicating Polio around the world.  This is funded through member contributions, along with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, as well as simple things like the Polio Pig that is passed around weekly club meetings to be filled with donations.

Youth Service

Interact

We proudly sponsor the Interact Club at Nevada School of Inquiry.  The club brings together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self.  The club organizes both community and international projects, while helping support the Downtown club with service projects.  Our rotary club mentors and guides Interactors as they carry out projects and develop leadership skills.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive training program for High School Sophomores and Juniors. Talented young people attend a 3 day seminar organized by the Rotarians of District 5300 of Rotary International. The RYLA experience prepares young people to be leaders in their community, profession, and other facets of life.

Teen Leadership Camp

Teen Leadership Camp (TLC) is a leadership training program for outstanding 8th graders. The program is sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of District 5300. Students interact and participate in leadership activities with over 200 peers from areas throughout our District which encompasses Clubs from East Los Angeles, High Desert and Southern Nevada.

4-Way Speech Contest

Rotary District 5300 hosts a  yearly contest that begins at the club level and provides various levels of scholarships to the winners at District Conference 4-Way Speech contest.  High school students are eligible to participate, where each contestant chooses a topic of a speech. The purpose of the speech is to persuade others, while applying the principles of Rotary's 4-Way Test.

Dan Stover Music Award

Rotary District 5300 hosts a  yearly contest that begins at the club level and provides for various levels of scholarships to the winners at District Conference, in a music competition.  Monetary awards are granted to the top performers to assist them with furthering their education. The #1 winner at the club level goes on to compete at the regional level, and then, possibly, the district level, with scholarship monies awarded at each level!
